Accelerated International Foundation Year
Your fast-track route to an undergraduate degree
The Accelerated International Foundation Year* is an intensive, 2 term programme to Durham University.
You can choose from two subject routes:
- Business, Economics, Accounting and Finance
- Humanities and Social Sciences
Whichever route you choose, your programme will comprise of modules designed to equip you for success at Durham. Academic English Skills is taught across both subject routes, with the remainder of your programme being subject-specific modules, so you can progress to the University with confidence.

Academic: Good high school graduation grades or equivalent, with relevant subjects
Academic IELTS 6.0(with minimum 5.5 in all skills) or equivalent
Age: 17+
*We accept equivalent proof of English if you do not need a Student visa, or are exempt in another way.

The Accelerated International Foundation Year gives you a structured introduction to your future subject area, so you start your undergraduate students with confidence. You will study a combination of core and subject-specific modules covering the English language, study skills and academic areas most relevant to your degree.
Not yet meeting the UK university entry requirements?
This programme fills the gap. You’ll develop the academic knowledge and English skills needed to progress to a degree at Durham University – a World Top 100 university.
